Just replaced 26 yr Thorn Panda 50 which was self installed and never serviced by a boiler engineer checked @ 86% a year before it started leaking. Unlikely a condensing boiler would work with my micro bore system and adhoc rads. Conventional boiler same day fit to existing Selkirk vertical flue situated within house. This replacement boiler efficiency is a no brainer, as against the condensing version performance and price plus added complication of flue and 7 year life expectance.

  6. As I get older my maths & science skills get slower & rustier.I wonder if any clever oil users can tell me when it becomes cheaper to use a 3Kw immersion heater instead of oil. My oil costs me approx 55ppl My electricity costs 12p per Kw. My boiler is about 87% efficient. I suppose my question is :- how many Kw are in a litre of domestic oil. It takes approx 3Kw to heat the tank from scratch in winter. Cheers in anticipation , Fred

  7. I have an 8 yr old Riallo RDB combi oil fired boiler. I appear to be using about 45 litres a week during the winter or 6.5 litres a day. That is; I have used 500 litres from the end of January to 21st April about 11 weeks. Does this seem about right?
